Power for your LED fanny pack: why we use USB

A light-up bag should not depend on one special battery being available years from now. In the NEBULITE Fanny Pack 4, the controller and battery are separate. A suitable standard 5 V USB power bank supplies the light; the power bank is sold separately.

Keep the controller. Replace the battery.

Rechargeable batteries lose capacity with use and age. If the power bank is the part that needs replacing, you can keep your bag and controller. Choose another suitable USB power bank from the brand you prefer, rather than replacing a combined controller-and-battery unit.

That gives you more choice over capacity, size and price. You might already own a suitable power bank for your phone. With a model-specific battery module, a replacement depends on the right part still being available from its supplier; a standard USB connection lets you compare ordinary power banks.

What to check before choosing one

• Output: use the specified 5 V USB supply and the original cable for your pack. Check the actual USB output port, not only the charging input.
• Size: the power bank needs to fit the pocket without straining the cable or connector.
• Weight and capacity: a larger battery can mean more weight. Choose what is comfortable to carry.
• Low-load operation: check that the power bank keeps supplying power when the bag draws little current.
• Your exact model: follow the instructions supplied with the pack and the power bank.

If the light switches off unexpectedly

First charge the power bank, switch it on if needed, and check that the original cable is fully connected. If you have another suitable 5 V USB power bank, try it before buying a replacement.

Some power banks turn off when the connected device draws little current. Certain models have a low-current mode, sometimes called trickle charging. Check the manufacturer's instructions: support and time limits vary. For example, Anker explains this behaviour and its model-specific limits. Follow the instructions for your power bank when selecting this mode.

Try your setup before heading out

Connect your pack, choose the brightness and effect you want to use, and leave it running before your evening out. How long the light runs depends on the power bank, brightness and lighting mode.
